Die 17. Auflage der Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja Trophy, das war das große Fest des Kindersegelns. Knapp 430 Segler aus 29 Ländern nahmen an dem mehrtägigen Wettkampf in der Klasse Optimist, der größten Segelklasse weltweit, vor der Küste von Torrevieja teil. Es ist das sportliche Highlight, das seit 17 Jahren vom Jachtclub Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja organisiert wird. Der Türke Mehmet Erkut Budak (Sopraventus Team – Istanbul SC) erzielte den Gesamtsieg, die Französin Lilou Backes (YCPR Sopraventus) gewann bei den Damen. Ein Lokalerfolg in der Kategorie SUB13: Izan Rogel vom RCN Torrevieja setzte sich durch auf Platz Eins.
Carlos Torrado, Präsident des Segelverbands des Landes Valencia (FVCV) betonte die Bedeutung dieser Art von Regatta. „Die Regatta“, so Torrado, „stellt für Kinder und Jugendliche meist den ersten Schritt in den Segelsport dar.“ Die jungen Segler würden mittels der Teilnahme an diesem sportlichen Event „lebenslang unvergessliche Erinnerungen mitnehmen“. Sein Fazit: „Es ist ein sportliches Fest für auf dem Wasser!“
„Es ist die größte Wintersport-Regatta dieser Art im Mittelmeer“, bringt Torrado die XVII. Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja bei der Präsentation auf der Club-Terrasse auf den Punkt. Über 17 Jahre lang, so der Geschäftsführer des RCNT, sei die Regatta organisch gewachsen und habe international Jahr für Jahr immer mehr internationale Segler angezogen.
Heute sind jugendliche Segler auch aus Deutschland, der Schweiz und Österreich dabei, so wie aus England, Polen, Belgien, Bulgarien, Kroatien, Ungarn, Dänemark, Schweden, Griechenland, Venezuela, Hong Kong, Thailand, der Türkei, Ukraine, Israel, Japan, den Niederlanden und Portugal. Und natürlich viele Spanier: Allein im RCNT trainieren nämlich ganzjährig über 40 Kinder und Jugendliche in den Jollenklassen Optimist, Laser, 29-er sowie Europa. Und schneiden aufgrund der vorbildlichen Jugendförderung des Jachtclubs international sehr gut ab – oft als Titelgewinner in ihren jeweiligen Klassen. Als die “Seele des Real Club Náutico“ bezeichnet der passionierte Segler denn auch das Jollensegeln und insbesondere die Jugendförderung des Königlich-Spanischen Jachtclubs.
Für die jungen Segler würden sich Freundschaften über alle Landesgrenzen hinweg begründen. Freundschaften, die oft eine ganze Segler-Karriere lang andauern: „Viele Segler und Seglerinnen werden mit zunehmender Erfahrung und aufgrund ihrer späteren Leistungen in die jeweilige Nationalmannschaft ihres Landes aufgenommen.“ Die Klasse Optimist – eigentlich Nussschalen von 2,3 Metern Länge mit 3,5 Quadratmetern Segelfläche – ist weltweit der vornehmliche Einstieg in den Regattasport.
Patricia und Antonio José Quesada, Direktoren von Euromarina, dem Hauptsponsor der Regatta, stellten die optimalen klimatischen Bedingungen für diese Winterregatta vor. „Die Regatta ist für uns auch ein Schaufenster, um die Vorzüge der Costa Blanca im Residenzialtourismus bekannt zu machen.“ Die Costa Blanca habe eine jährliche Durchschnittstemperatur von 18,5 Grad Celsius, mit 2.300 Sonnenstunden.
Das Segelevent wirkt sich auch positiv auf den Tourismus der Stadt Torrevieja aus. Der Segelnachwuchs kommt mit seinen jeweiligen Familien und verbringt mehrere Tage in Torrevieja, so dient das Event auch zur Ankurbelung von Hotellerie und Gastronomie in der flauen Wintersaison der Strandstadt an der südlichen Costa Blanca.

The 17th edition of the Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja Trophy was a great celebration of children’s sailing. Almost 430 sailors from 29 countries took part in the multi-day competition in the Optimist class, the largest sailing class in the world, off the coast of Torrevieja. It is the sporting highlight that has been organized by the Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja yacht club for 17 years. Turkey’s Mehmet Erkut Budak (Sopraventus Team – Istanbul SC) was the overall winner, while France’s Lilou Backes (YCPR Sopraventus) won the women’s category. A local success in the SUB13 category: Izan Rogel from RCN Torrevieja took first place.
Carlos Torrado, President of the Valencia Sailing Federation (FVCV), emphasized the importance of this type of regatta. “The regatta,” said Torrado, ”is usually the first step into sailing for children and young people.” By taking part in this sporting event, the young sailors would “take away unforgettable memories for life”. His conclusion: “It’s a sporting celebration on the water!”
“It is the largest winter sports regatta of its kind in the Mediterranean,” says Torrado, summing up the XVII Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja at the presentation on the club terrace. According to the RCNT Managing Director, the regatta has grown organically for over 17 years and has attracted more and more international sailors year after year.
Today, there are young sailors from Germany, Switzerland and Austria, as well as from England, Poland, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Denmark, Sweden, Greece, Venezuela, Hong Kong, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, Israel, Japan, the Netherlands and Portugal. And, of course, many Spaniards: in the RCNT alone, over 40 children and young people train all year round in the Optimist, Laser, 29er and Europa dinghy classes. And thanks to the yacht club’s exemplary youth development program, they do very well internationally – often winning titles in their respective classes. The passionate sailor describes dinghy sailing and in particular the Royal Spanish Yacht Club’s youth development program as the “soul of the Real Club Náutico”.
For the young sailors, friendships are formed across all national borders. Friendships that often last for an entire sailing career: “Many sailors are accepted into their country’s national team as they gain experience and because of their subsequent performance.” The Optimist class – actually nutshells of 2.3 meters in length with a sail area of 3.5 square meters – is the main entry into regatta sport worldwide.
Patricia and Antonio José Quesada, directors of Euromarina, the main sponsor of the regatta, presented the optimal climatic conditions for this winter regatta. “The regatta is also a showcase for us to promote the advantages of the Costa Blanca in residential tourism.” The Costa Blanca has an average annual temperature of 18.5 degrees Celsius, with 2,300 hours of sunshine.
The sailing event also has a positive effect on tourism in the city of Torrevieja. The young sailors come with their respective families and spend several days in Torrevieja, so the event also serves to boost the hotel and restaurant industry during the slack winter season in the beach town on the southern Costa Blanca.

La 17ª edición del Trofeo Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja fue una gran celebración de la vela infantil. Casi 430 regatistas de 29 países participaron en la competición de varios días en la clase Optimist, la mayor clase de vela del mundo, frente a la costa de Torrevieja. Es el acontecimiento deportivo más importante que organiza el Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja desde hace 17 años. El turco Mehmet Erkut Budak (Sopraventus Team – Istanbul SC) fue el vencedor absoluto, mientras que la francesa Lilou Backes (YCPR Sopraventus) se impuso en categoría femenina. Éxito local en la categoría SUB13: Izan Rogel, del RCN Torrevieja, se hizo con el primer puesto.
Carlos Torrado, Presidente de la Federación Valenciana de Vela (FVCV), destacó la importancia de este tipo de regatas. «La regata», dijo Torrado, “suele ser el primer paso en la vela para niños y jóvenes”. Al participar en este evento deportivo, los jóvenes regatistas «se llevan recuerdos inolvidables para toda la vida». Su conclusión: «¡Es una fiesta deportiva en el agua!».
«Es la mayor regata de deportes de invierno de este tipo en el Mediterráneo», dice Torrado, resumiendo la XVII Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja en la presentación en la terraza del club. Según el director gerente del RCNT, la regata ha crecido orgánicamente durante más de 17 años y ha atraído a más regatistas internacionales año tras año.
Hoy en día, hay jóvenes regatistas de Alemania, Suiza y Austria, así como de Inglaterra, Polonia, Bélgica, Bulgaria, Croacia, Hungría, Dinamarca, Suecia, Grecia, Venezuela, Hong Kong, Tailandia, Turquía, Ucrania, Israel, Japón, Países Bajos y Portugal. Y, por supuesto, muchos españoles: sólo en el RCNT, más de 40 niños y jóvenes entrenan durante todo el año en las clases Optimist, Laser, 29er y Europa de vela ligera. Y gracias al ejemplar programa de cantera del club náutico, obtienen muy buenos resultados a nivel internacional, a menudo ganando títulos en sus respectivas clases. El apasionado regatista describe la vela ligera y, en particular, el programa de cantera del Real Club Náutico Español como «el alma del Real Club Náutico».
Para los jóvenes regatistas, se forman amistades más allá de todas las fronteras nacionales. Amistades que a menudo duran toda una carrera náutica: «Muchos regatistas son aceptados en el equipo nacional de su país a medida que adquieren experiencia y por su posterior rendimiento». La clase Optimist -en realidad cáscaras de nuez de 2,3 metros de eslora y 3,5 metros cuadrados de superficie vélica- es el principal nivel de entrada en las regatas de todo el mundo.
Patricia y Antonio José Quesada, directores de Euromarina, patrocinador principal de la regata, presentaron las condiciones climáticas óptimas para esta regata de invierno. «La regata es también para nosotros un escaparate para dar a conocer las ventajas de la Costa Blanca en turismo residencial». La Costa Blanca tiene una temperatura media anual de 18,5 grados centígrados, con 2.300 horas de sol.
El evento náutico también tiene un efecto positivo en el turismo de la ciudad de Torrevieja. Los jóvenes regatistas vienen con sus familias y pasan varios días en Torrevieja, por lo que el evento también sirve para impulsar la hostelería durante la floja temporada de invierno en la ciudad costera del sur de la Costa Blanca.
