50 Nationen, 900 Athleten: Bei der diesjährigen Weltmeisterschaft im Kickboxen in Kairo hat der Torrevejense Germán Gómez sich den Titel des Weltmeisters in der Kategorie „Light Contact“ erkämpft. Außer dieser Goldmedaille errang er in seiner Gewichtsklasse unter 71 kg Silber in den Kategorien „Kick Boxing“ und „Full Contact“.
„Es war ein sehr intensiver sportlicher Wettkampf“, sagt Germán im Interview. Die Kämpfe bis ins Finale bestehen aus jeweils drei Runden zu je zwei Minuten. Dass Germán in gleich drei Kategorien das Finale erreicht hat, ist seinem harten Training an der Costa Blanca zu verdanken – im Club Kickboxing Domingo Team.
Der Apfel fällt offenbar nicht weit vom Stamm – es ist sein Vater Domingo Gómez, der den jungen Ausnahmeathleten auf die Weltmeisterschaft vorbereitet hat. Im Vorfeld der Weltmeisterschaft habe Germán über zwei Monate lang sechs Stunden jeden Tag in drei Trainingseinheiten zu je zwei Stunden an sechs Tagen der Woche im Ring gestanden.
„Er ist ein sehr guter Trainer“, erklärt Germán dankbar. Der Vater ist sichtlich stolz auf seinen Sohn: „Ein Mal Gold und zwei Mal Silber in seinem ersten internationalen Wettkampf, das ist eine herausragende Leistung!“ Dass Germán Gómez nicht auch noch eine zweite Goldmedaille in der Kategorie „Full Contact“ bei der Weltmeisterschaft im ägyptischen Kairo erkämpfen konnte, verdankt er einem rechten Haken in der letzten Runde: Der Gegner ging K.O. auf die Matte. Gesiegt hatte zwar im Grunde Germán, aber K.O. Schlagen gelte nicht im Reglement. „Wir haben im Full Contact gewissermaßen verloren, weil wir gesiegt haben,“ schmunzelt der Vater.
Domingo Carrillo hat mit seiner Akademie „Club Kickboxing Domingo Team“ bereits 13 Weltmeister im Kickboxen auf den Weg gebracht. Der Schwarzgurt im Taekwondo ist Coach der spanischen Liga und steht seit seinem sechsten Lebensjahr, quasi von Kindesbeinen an, im Ring. In der Vega Baja ist Domingo wohl bekannt, er hat Hunderte von Kampfsportlern in seinen drei Trainingszentren ausgebildet – und zwar dem CDM von Orihuela Costa, dem Palacio del Deporte in Torrevieja sowie dem Gym Atenéa in Almoradí. Der leidenschaftliche Kampfsportler bereitet seinen Sohn jetzt auf die kommende Kickboxing-Weltmeisterschaft vor, die im Oktober 2022 in Paris stattfinden wird.
„Wir freuen uns auf Paris“, sagen Vater und Sohn einhellig. Das Event in Kairo sei chaotisch organisiert abgelaufen. Wettkämpfe hätten sich verzögert, weil Autorisierungen fehlten. Die Sportler seien rund um die Uhr von Sicherheitskräften in Zivil mit MP unter dem Jackett bewacht worden. „Die Veranstalter befürchteten Entführungen für Lösegelderpressungen… Die Internationale Kickboxing-Föderation werde in absehbarer Zeit wohl keine internationalen Wettkämpfe in Nordafrika mehr auf die Beine stellen wollen.

50 nations, 900 athletes: In this year’s World Kickboxing Championships in Cairo, the Torrevejense Germán Gómez has won the title of World Champion in the category “Light Contact”. In addition to this gold medal, he won silver in the categories of “Kick Boxing” and “Full Contact” in his weight class under 71 kg.
“It was a very intense sporting competition,” says Germán in the interview. The fights up to the final consisted of three rounds of two minutes each. The fact that Germán reached the finals in no less than three categories is thanks to his hard training on the Costa Blanca – in the Club Kickboxing Domingo team.
The apple obviously does not fall far from the tree – it is his father Domingo Gómez who prepared the exceptional young athlete for the world championship. In the run-up to the world championship, Germán had been in the ring for six hours every day for over two months in three training sessions of two hours each, six days a week.
“He is a very good coach,” Germán explains gratefully. The father is visibly proud of his son: “One gold and two silver in his first international competition, that’s an outstanding achievement!” The fact that Germán Gómez did not also win a second gold medal in the “Full Contact” category at the World Championships in Cairo, Egypt, is thanks to a right hook in the last round: his opponent was knocked out on the mat. Won, in fact, Germán, but knockout punching does not apply in the rules. “In a way, we lost in Full Contact because we won,” smiles the father.
Domingo Carrillo has already launched 13 world champions in kickboxing with his academy “Club Kickboxing Domingo Team”. The black belt in Taekwondo is coach of the Spanish League and has been in the ring since he was six years old, practically from childhood. Domingo is well known in Vega Baja, he has trained hundreds of martial artists in his three training centers – namely the CDM of Orihuela Costa, the Palacio del Deporte in Torrevieja and the Gym Atenéa in Almoradí. The passionate martial artist is now preparing his son for the upcoming World Kickboxing Championships, which will be held in Paris in October 2022.
“We’re looking forward to Paris,” say father and son in unison. The event in Cairo, they say, was chaotically organized. Competitions were delayed because authorizations were missing. Athletes were guarded around the clock by plainclothes security guards with MPs under their jackets, he said. “Organizers feared kidnappings for ransom… The International Kickboxing Federation would probably not want to stage any more international competitions in North Africa in the foreseeable future.

Además de esta medalla de oro, ganó dos medallas de plata en las modalidades “Kick Boxing” y “Full Contact”.
“Fue una competición deportiva muy intensa”, dice Germán en la entrevista. Los combates hasta la final consistieron en siempre tres asaltos de dos minutos de duración cada uno. El hecho de que Germán haya llegado a la final en nada menos que tres categorías es gracias a su duro entrenamiento en la Costa Blanca, en el equipo del Club Kickboxing „Domingo Team“.
Evidentemente, de tal palo tal astilla: Es su padre, Domingo Gómez, quien preparó al excepcional joven atleta para el campeonato mundial de El Cairo. En el período previo al Campeonato del Mundo, Germán había estado entrenando en el ring seis horas diarias durante más de dos meses en tres sesiones de entrenamiento de dos horas cada una, seis días a la semana…
„Mi padre un muy buen entrenador”, confirma Germán agradecido. El padre está visiblemente orgulloso de su hijo: “Un oro y dos platas en su primera competición internacional, ¡esto es un logro extraordinario!” El hecho de que Germán Gómez no ganara también una segunda medalla de oro en la categoría de “Full Contact” en los Campeonatos del Mundo de El Cairo (Egipto) se debió a un gancho de derecha en el último asalto: su rival quedó noqueado en la lona. Germán había ganado básicamente, pero el knock out no se aplica en las reglas. “En cierto modo, hemos perdido en Full Contact porque hemos ganado”, sonríe el padre.
Domingo Carrillo ha lanzado ya 13 campeones mundiales de kickboxing con su academia “Club Kickboxing Domingo Team”. El cinturón negro de taekwondo es entrenador de la liga española y lleva en el ring desde los seis años, prácticamente desde la infancia. Domingo es muy conocido en la Vega Baja, ha entrenado a cientos de artistas marciales en sus tres centros de entrenamiento – el CDM de Orihuela Costa, el Palacio del Deporte en Torrevieja y el Gym Atenéa en Almoradí. El apasionado artista marcial prepara ahora a su hijo para el próximo Campeonato Mundial de Kickboxing, que tendrá lugar en París en octubre de 2022.
“Estamos deseando ir a París”, dicen padre e hijo al unísono. El acto de El Cairo se organizó de forma caótica. Los concursos se retrasaron porque faltaban las autorizaciones. Los atletas estuvieron vigilados las 24 horas del día por guardias de seguridad vestidos de civil con rifles bajo sus chaquetas. “Los organizadores temían que se produjeran secuestros para pedir rescate… La Federación Internacional de Kickboxing probablemente no querrá organizar más competiciones internacionales en el norte de África en un futuro próximo.
