Kinder auf See hart am Wind: Der Jachtclub RCN Torrevieja veranstaltet mit der “Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja” Europas größten winterlichen Segelwettbewerb – mit 420 Teilnehmern aus über 20 Ländern
(scroll down for English) Und sie segeln wieder – trotz des frischen Wetters auch an der vornehmlich sonnigen Costa Blanca! Über 400 Kinder und Jugendliche im Alter von zwischen sechs und 15 Jahren aus aller Welt reisen mit ihren Eltern und Trainern nach torrevieja, um an der größten winterlichen Jollenregatta im Mittelmeer teilzunehmen – der „Euromarina Optimist Trophy“. Die kurz „Optis“ genannten Einhand-Jollen (Länge 2,30 m, Breite 1,13 m, Gewicht 45 kg) erinnern an Schuhkartons, es ist jedoch die größte Bootsklasse der Welt. Über eine halbe Million Optimisten segeln auf allen Weltmeeren. Für zukünftige Segler bis hin zu den Profis bei der #TheOceanRace, der #VendéeGlobe oder dem #americascup hat sich die Optimist-Jolle mit ihren nur 3,5 Quadratmetern Segelfläche als die Einsteigerklasse in den Segelsport etabliert.
Vorgestellt haben die Regatta, organisiert vom Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja (RCNT), sowohl die Veranstalter wie auch Sponsoren und Politiker. “Wir sind sehr stolz darauf, an einem so wichtigen Ereignis für den Tourismus teilnehmen zu können”, sagte Antonio Quesada von Euromarina, dem Hauptsponsor der Regatta. “Es ist gut, dass Torrevieja durch diese Veranstaltung als eine für den Sporttourismus offene Stadt wahrgenommen wird.“
Carlos Torrado, Geschäftsführer des RCNT und Präsident des Segelverbands des Landes Valencia, erklärte: „”Es ist wichtig für Valencia und insbesondere für Torrevieja, dass der RCN Torrevieja diese Regatta weiterhin auf Weltniveau hält, da sie nicht nur die Besten der Welt anzieht, sondern alle Clubs unserer Region davon profitieren, sich mit den Besten der Welt zu messen. Daher werden wir vom Verband auch weiterhin unsere volle Unterstützung anbieten”.
“Dieses Segelevent für Kinder“, so Germán Soler, Präsident des Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja, „ist eines der wichtigsten in Spanien und ich würde sagen in Europa. Wir haben uns mit der Erweiterung der Einrichtungen vorbereitet, in dieser Ausgabe haben wir eine Plattform mit zwei Rampen, die die 1.100 Quadratmeter der Plattform vervollständigen, um den Seglern Leichtigkeit und Komfort zu geben. Wir haben auch bedacht, dass 426 Kinder aus mehr als 20 Ländern mit ihren Trainern und Eltern teilnehmen werden, so dass der Club weiterhin in den Breitensport, dem Rückgrat des RCNT, investiert”.
Am Beginn findet die Welcome Party statt. “Jedes Jahr, wenn wir alle diese jungen Sportler empfangen, feiern wir das Willkommensfest“, sagt Conchi Esquiva, stellvertretende Vorsitzende des Jachtclubs. Die Welcome Party sei für alle, „nicht nur für Segler und Trainer, sondern für alle die einen Tag des Zusammenlebens und des Vergnügens erleben wollen, der mit der Feier der Flaggen endet.“
Der Hauptsponsor #euromarina ist einer der renommiertesten traditionellen Bauträger an der Costa Blanca, der vergangenes Jahr sein 50-jähriges Jubiläum feierte. „Die Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja“, sagt Geschäftsführerin Patricia Quesada, „stellt das beste Schaufenster für die einzigartige Lebensqualität unser Region dar.“ Mit der Regatta im Winter beweise die Costa Blanca ihre ideale klimatische und touristische Attraktion. Mit einer jährlichen Durchschnittstemperatur von 18 Grad Celsius und 3.300 Sonnenstunden im Jahr offenbart sich die Costa Blanca als klimatisch begünstigte Küstenlandschaft.
426 jugendliche Regattasegler aus über 20 Nationen nehmen am 16. Euromarina Optimist Trophy Torrevieja teil. Auf sie wartet von Mittwoch, 24. Januar, bis Sonntag, 28. Januar, ein hartes Programm mit insgesamt zwölf Starts verteilt über die drei Wettkampftage, Leinen los heißt es täglich um 10 Uhr. Das Finale findet am Sonntag statt. Und das Wetter spielt dieses Jahr wieder mit: Durchschnittliche Tageshöchsttemperaturen von 12 Grad Celsius sowie mäßiger Wind aus Nord mit zwischen zehn bis 13 Knoten (20 km/h) sind vorausgesagt. Unterm Strich: Drei bis vier Beaufort gelten als ideale Bedingungen für sportliches Segeln in dieser Jollenklasse.
„Dass Torrevieja eine Institution wie den Real Club Náutico hat“, freut sich Bürgermeister Eduardo Dolón, „das ist wirklich großartig!“ Dank derartiger nautischer Events könne sich die Strandstadt an der südlichen Costa Blanca auf herausragende Art und Weise im internationalen Tourismus positionieren. Last not least: Für die Hotellerie und Gastronomie bedeutet die Anreise, Unterbringung und Verpflegung Hunderter von Segelenthusiasten im flauen Wintermonat Januar ein willkommenes Zubrot.
„Es ist die größte Wintersport-Regatta dieser Art im Mittelmeer“, bringt Carlos Torrado die XVI. Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja bei der Präsentation auf der Club-Terrasse auf den Punkt. Über 15 Jahre lang, so der Geschäftsführer des RCNT und Vorsitzende des Segelverbands des Landes Valencia (span.: Federación de Vela de la Comunitat Valenciana, FVCV) sei die Regatta organisch gewachsen und habe international Jahr für Jahr immer mehr internationale junge Segler angezogen.
Heuer sind jugendliche Segler auch aus Deutschland, der Schweiz und Österreich dabei, so wie aus England, Polen, Belgien, Bulgarien, Kroatien, Ungarn, Dänemark, Schweden, Griechenland, Venezuela, Hong Kong, Thailand, der Türkei, Ukraine, Israel, Japan, den Niederlanden und Portugal. Und natürlich viele Spanier: Allein im RCNT trainieren nämlich ganzjährig über 40 Kinder und Jugendliche in den Jollenklassen Optimist, Laser, 29-er sowie Europa. Und schneiden aufgrund der vorbildlichen Jugendförderung des Jachtclubs international sehr gut ab – oft als Titelgewinner in ihren jeweiligen Klassen. Als „die Seele des Real Club Náutico“ bezeichnet der passionierte Segler denn auch das Jollensegeln und insbesondere die Jugendförderung des Königlich-spanischen Jachtclubs.

And they are sailing again – despite the fresh weather, even on the mainly sunny Costa Blanca! Over 400 children and young people aged between six and 15 from all over the world have traveled to Torrevieja with their parents to take part in the largest winter dinghy regatta in the Mediterranean – the “Euromarina Optimist Trophy”. The single-handed dinghies (length 2.30 m, width 1.13 m, weight 45 kg), known as “Optis” for short, are reminiscent of shoeboxes, but are also the largest boat class in the world. Over half a million Optimists sail the world’s oceans. For future sailors through to the professionals at #TheOceanRace, the #VendéeGlobe or the #americascup, the Optimist, with its sail area of just 3.5 square meters, has established itself as THE entry-level class in sailing.
The regatta, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja (RCNT), was presented by the organizers as well as sponsors and politicians. “We are very proud to be able to take part in such an important event for tourism,” said Antonio Quesada from Euromarina, the main sponsor of the regatta. “It is good that Torrevieja is perceived as a city open to sports tourism through this event.”
Carlos Torrado, Managing Director of the RCNT and President of the Sailing Federation of Valencia, said: “It is important for Valencia and especially for Torrevieja that the RCN Torrevieja continues to maintain this regatta at world level, as it not only attracts the best in the world, but all the clubs in our region benefit from competing with the best in the world. Therefore, we from the association will continue to offer our full support.”
“This sailing event for children,” said Germán Soler, President of the Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja, “is one of the most important in Spain and I would say in Europe. We have prepared ourselves with the expansion of the facilities, in this edition we have a platform with two ramps that complete the 1,100 square meters of the platform to give ease and comfort to the sailors. The Welcome Party is for everyone, “not just for sailors and coaches, but for everyone who wants to experience a day of togetherness and fun that ends with the celebration of the flags.”
The main sponsor #euromarina is one of the most prestigious traditional builders on the Costa Blanca, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. “The Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja,” says Managing Director Patricia Quesada, “is the best showcase for the unique quality of life in our region.” With the regatta in winter, the Costa Blanca proves its ideal climatic and tourist attraction. With an average annual temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and 3,300 hours of sunshine a year, the Costa Blanca reveals itself as a climatically favorable coastal landscape.
426 young regatta sailors from over 20 nations are taking part in the 16th Euromarina Optimist Trophy Torrevieja. A tough program awaits them from Wednesday, January 24 to Sunday, January 28, with a total of twelve starts spread over the three days of the competition, starting at 10 a.m. each day. The final takes place on Sunday. And the weather is playing along again this year: Average daily maximum temperatures of 12 degrees Celsius and moderate winds from the north of between ten and 13 knots (20 km/h) are forecast. The bottom line: three to four Beaufort are considered ideal conditions for sporty sailing in this dinghy class.
“The fact that Torrevieja has an institution like the Real Club Náutico,” said a delighted Mayor Eduardo Dolón, “is really great!” Thanks to such nautical events, the beach town on the southern Costa Blanca can position itself in an outstanding way in international tourism. Last but not least: for the hotel and catering industry, the arrival, accommodation and catering of hundreds of sailing enthusiasts in the slack winter month of January means welcome extra income.
“It’s the biggest winter sports regatta of its kind in the Mediterranean,” says Carlos Torrado, summing up the XVI Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja at the presentation on the club terrace. For over 15 years, according to the Managing Director of the RCNT and Chairman of the Valencia Sailing Federation (Federación de Vela de la Comunitat Valenciana, FVCV), the regatta has grown organically and has attracted more and more international sailors year after year.
Today, there are also young sailors from Germany, Switzerland and Austria, as well as from England, Poland, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Denmark, Sweden, Greece, Venezuela, Hong Kong, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, Israel, Japan, the Netherlands and Portugal. And, of course, many Spaniards: in the RCNT alone, over 40 children and young people train all year round in the Optimist, Laser, 29er and Europa dinghy classes. And thanks to the yacht club’s exemplary youth development program, they do very well internationally – often winning titles in their respective classes. The passionate sailor describes dinghy sailing and in particular the Royal Spanish Yacht Club’s youth development program as “the soul of the Real Club Náutico”.
